Our little bundle of joy

Well princess Olivia is growing up very fast. she will be 3 months old next wednesday and what and amazing 3 months it has been. She is the best little baby on the planet, she has slept through the night since day one and feed well. she has had all of her midwive visits and doctors appointments and she has even survived her first round of imunisations.

Everyday she learns something new, she is laughing now and the sound brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear it i hope that never changes she is so very special and i didnt realise how void i was as a person until she entered my life. i wonder now how i have survived without her presence in my life.

Along with her growing and changing the rest of the workd has continued along with earth quakes, tsnamies, and all round chaos, sometimes i just think im so very greatful to live in such an amazingly beautiful place. Im also greatful that i'm able to hide out in our little oasis on the top of this hill over looking the ocean and not be exposed to the media and constant depressing news broadcast that seem to act as an addictive drug once you let yourself "just check to see what is going on". Next thing you know you have been glued to the Tv screen for 4 hours, you are in tears from all of the despair and heartbrake and you havent fodled the washing or done the dishes or even got up for a wee. So i try to avoid it at all costs.

Im happy here below this rock that i live under.

Unfortunaelty as always money is the defining thing in our lives and i will need to crawl out from under this rock and go out into the big bad world and return to the Work Force. Blugh! if only we could be completely self reliant.

Consrtuction and design

Well we have been building up a storm here in the land of TAS. As we start to unpack and settle down into our beautiful home we have realised two things. We have a really big supply of bits of timber in all different lengths, and a lack of household furniture. So what do you do with this discovery?.... you put the two together and build stuff. So far on our DIY adventures we have built an entertainment unit, a dvd case, a book case, a coat rack and an awesome corner computer desk.

There is just so much joy to be had with building something for your own home out of raw materials from scratch. I think there is no better way to spend a sunday than out in the back yard with a hot pot of tea, little baby girl in the pram, nappies hanging on the line in the sun and passing nails to the papa bear of the family. It reminds me of the very special and memorable times i had with my own dad as a little kid handing him nails and holding the other end of the tape measure while he worked away on his latest project.

The fun part is designing the next hand crafted peice of furniture, getting out the pencil ruler and pad and drawing "to scale" drawings of different options and then laying out the materials only to find that your desing has grown form four legs and a desk top to the mother ship of comand centers complete with seperate shelf for keyboard and mouse access.

Next on the list is a kitchen table and dining chairs. This one may require more than a hand saw, hammer and nails we have straighted on the bricks out the back, I think a trip to a hardware stop will be in order.

Wish us luck.

It's a girl! Olivia Stevie Pledger

The long awaited arrival of miss Olivia Stevie Pledger

Well our little princess finally decided to join the world on 26/01/2011. After spending what felt like an eternity in mum's belly little miss Olivia was coaxed into the world by the helpful team at the Queen Victoria Maternity Clinic in Launceston.

After 20 hours of intense labour for both mum and dad, two epidurals and an emergency C-section she joined the world at a whopping 57 cms, and weighed 8lbs 4oz and what a surprise she was. Mum and Dad had thought the whole time that she was going to be a he. She is the pride and joy of a very proud dad who has fallen completely in love with her.

So to be that annoying first time mum with the perfect baby... my precious little angel has from the very beginning slept through the night, I get more sleep now than I did when she was in my belly.

She has mastered the art of smiling and has had us in stitches watching her.

We love our new little addition to the family and can't wait to see how she grows and changes.
